I had to read like four books about racism and the black experience in college. Professors would shoe-horn them in wherever they could. Unfortunately for me, the first one of these books I was assigned to read was Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, which is true literature and belongs on a list of books you should be made to read by schools. I'm glad I was made to read it (I likely would have gone on confusing it with Well's Invisible Man and thinking I had read it...), but every other book on race I was assigned ended up being measured against it. Which was not to their benefit.

The mandated humanities courses I needed to complete my degree were far left. I learned that the CIA funded black entertainment in the post-war era to combat the notions of racism. In another class I Harriet Beecher Stow wrote that it would take 4 generations to integrate blacks into white society and here we are.
I realized that the only difference between now and the race riots in the 40s, 50s, and 60s is now we don't have anyone around to crack heads when black people riot.
I wasn't a racist before and I still don't treat black people on a micro-level any differently but I now hate them abstractly.

People can only be integrated on a miniscule scale. Literally 1/100 or more can be assimilated, MAYBE. But as soon as you hit 1/10, you stand no chance at integration becuase they already have a group and can survive with them. It's also much harder for "people" to be assimilated than people who are from a slightly different culture
