A close reading of the New Testament in original with a good commentary. Once you see the vacuity and moral cowardice of what was at the heart of Western culture for the better part of 1900 years, you'll never recover.

Emil Cioran's work, for a real answer - "The Trouble With Being Born" and "On the Heights of Despair" are his two best. Also Thomas Ligotti's "The Conspiracy Against the Human Race," and "Better Never to Have Been" by David Benatar.

Apology by Plato

>> No.20631478

>>20631228
Apology is not an apology for suicide. Socrates willingly accepts death because to run away from Athens (as his wealthy friends begged him to) would be to admit his teaching was hollow and he is a sophist like the rest. He drank the hemlock willingly because of his principles, not because he wanted to die (though he makes a joke of this towards the end, having btfoing everyone in Athens he had no one left to talk to but the gods).
