What are you guys currently or planning on reading?

I’ve just bought the game of thrones books so that’s what I’ll be that reading soon. How about you??

>> No.20130701

I have finished reading The Second Sons trilogy by JENNIFER Fallon, first book is The Lion of Senet.

Its interesting in that it is non-magical, and not really about battles. Its largely intrigue, plotting, and mystery. The setting is on a Twin-Sunned planet where there is no night, and primarily follows are young man who is a math prodigy that is able to calculate some astronomical phenomenon the knowledge of which threatens to undermine the state-religious power of some matriarchal cult.

I don't consider it one of the greats, but it is decent. What I do think it has going for it, that no one else I am aware of has seemed to manage, is making a fantasy series that is largely unconcerned with with legendary battles, dark lords, and apocalypses but still feels grand and sweeping in its stakes and consequences.

I have read none of these. I doubt they are decent.

I've heard good things, but I think it's targeted at younger readers. Not that that is a bad thing, just what I've heard. THAT THAT, goddamn

Whats the point in reading this series? It was spoiled in the worst way by HBO and GRRM turned into an asshole and won't finish. Also Dance and Feast of Crows are said to be trash. So you have an incomplete series where the quality drops and the Author's ending was spoiled by a very poorly made TV series finale.

Because even so, it still manages to be significantly better than most fantasy written in the past couple of decades, unfortunately. I'd rather be stuck forever reading those five books, than be forced to read even a single shitty, formulaic book by Sanderson, for example

Any books with a cunning power hungry protagonist that'll do anything to get more powerful? Preferably a protagonist that starts at the bottom and isn't respected, but uses magic and wits to gain power. Also, preferably not cultivation?
