I know the top 3 fantasy series are LOTR, Gormenghast, and Zimiamvia, but what is #4?

I doubt anyone has read enough of the minor ones to do a serious ranking. They’re all so long. It would take years.

I guess so

Eddison is a meme, Frank Herbert is in the top 3 instead.
I can see multiple people for 4, Le Guin would prolly be my #1 pick.

>Eddison is a meme
Your opinion.
>Frank Herbert
I separate Sci-Fi from Fantasy, and completely disagree.

Sorry but it's Conan.

>Wheel of Time
Trash. Read the first five, never felt the need to start the sixth. The fact that even the most hardcore fans groan at the books seven to nine did not help.
>The Stormlight Archive
Trash. Quit at the start of the second book. I had never quit a book before.
>Malazan
Great fantasy series. Suffers from the author's goal to write a series that is better on the second read. Only read it once.
>Prince of Nothing
Read the first trilogy. It was entertaining but I gradually lost my interest.
>ASOIAF
Its good for the genre. Probably will never touch it again.
>The First Law
Good for edgy pre-teens.
>The Kingkiller Chronicle
Terrible. I sincerely regret the time I lost reading this trash.
>Earthsea
It is obvious that a an actual writer wrote this, as opposed to a fantasy writer. Never read the last one but I enjoyed the series.
>Guin Saga
Never got far into it so I do not have any opinion on it.

I'd like to recommend the original 6 Dragonlance Books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. The latter three books about the twins are still my favorite fantasy story to date. There's something very raw and real about a man trying to stop his brother from undoing himself and a woman's naïve belief that she can save such a man with love. Raistlin doesn't stop his bullshit until he's confronted with the only thing that can save a wicked man, and that's empathy. He had to see that he was not the poorest, most miserable creature to ever see the end of its mother's birth canal.

How does this compare to Harry Potter?

I actually really liked Outlander. Read it in a Popular Fiction class in undergrad and was actually surprised at how well the prose was written.

Number #4 is the BOOK OF THE NEW SUN. Sci-fi and Fantasy united as one.
