I fucking love magic. I dream every day that I'll wake up and I'd be able to cast a fireball out of my eyes or something. Though every time I go out there and search for a magic novel it never fucking focuses on the magic. So after a few books here and there I'd tell myself maybe I just need to be more specific with my search, so I go out there again on bookreads or whatever and look up 'magic academy'. That should work right? Going to a fucking school about magic you should actually learn about the principles and intricacies of so and so's magic system, right? BUT FUCKING NO!! its just a goddam social drama where the background theme is magic, there is no focus on magic except that the main character is good at it, thats all. SO WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE MAGIC BOOKS WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER ACTUALLY EXPLORES MAGIC, huh?

the only luck I've had is with web novels specifically ones from asia where the main character actually explores their magic system, something like lord of mysteries or whatever. sadly i cant read asian so the choices for me are much more narrow and translations are just a mix of trash dumps.

>I fucking love magic. I dream every day that I'll wake up and I'd be able to cast a fireball out of my eyes or something.

If that's the case then you don't actually love magic. You just love this pleb, sensationalist misunderstanding of what magic actually is. If you're actually interested in the subject, quit reading Fantasy shlock and actually delve into occult literature.

For introductory material I would recommend Eliphas Levi's The History of Magic, Madame Blavatsky's The Secret Doctrine, and Evola's Introduction to Magic. Any one of these three would make a good start, so it's your choice.

Evola's Introduction to Magic is the shortest of the three so maybe go with that first. In it's first chapter you'll quickly realize that magic has nothing to do with "shooting fire balls out your eyes".

Try reading Mother Of Learning or Delve (in-depth exploration of the power system in a gamelit, magic and nonmagic, then exploration of magic in the latest chapters out)
It's quite a good observation that most fantasy stories do not focus on the magic part. You should read manuals on magic if you're not interested in the stories and see how it goes.

Mother of learning is a good one OP, listen to this anon. I recommend HPMOR as well.

In general super rationalist mc + fantasy world fiction has what you want.

Cringe, read Crowley. Magick in Theory and Practice and Magick Without Tears are good introductions

I've already seen many people recommend Mother of Learning but for some reason I've never gotten into it? I remember reading the first few sentences and getting turned off by the loving family. I'll have to give it another try soon. Delve sounds good I'll check it out even if it has horrible ratings on royal road.

Hmmmm haven't really read fan fictions but I'll give it at least 10 chapters of time. I used to stay away from english web novels because of the underlying hints of american propaganda but I ran out of good asian novels to read sadly.

Anon here. Everything flows very nicely after the basic introductions/the first loop, you'll see.

Delve is good. Ironically the bad reviews stem from the authors' obsession with the magic system. There previously was a balance between events that move the plot forward and the exploration of the system by the main character but it was broken after some time, causing the story to advance at an abysmal pace. It was of course very infuriating because we had to wait every week to see minor advancements but it shouldn't be a problem for you. Overall it should be a bingable, satisfying read. Especially if you like magic and loopholes exploration.

It depends on how deep the magic system is, the main character should explore the magic system bit by bit which should cause story elements to develop as well. Better magic allows mc to do more things which causes more happenings to happen. Explaining the magic only gets bad if you're a shit author who relies on handwaves.
