OP here. This might sound like a larp, but I am currently getting more depressed and sad than usual because I found out that a man in our friend group of many years is potentially a rapist. I try not to speculate too much and now it seems like the group is slowly turning on me as well.

Life is hell, but oh well.

Myth of sisyphus. It's short and I found it very inspiring.
Also heard good things about man's search for meaning, though I still need to read it

This is something that I've been thinking of getting as well! Luckily I found it in my native tongue in my local book store. Thanks for confirming in a way haha!

Fuck, that's tough. I experienced something similar a while ago, the worst thing about it was that he always used to be a pretty outspoken feminist. Most of our friends cut him out since, but it still hurts because the friend group has been slowly falling apart for years, and I really used to look up to him.

I've heard about situations like that, "feminist" men turning out to be sexual predators. My friend was neither a feminist or anti-feminist, but it was still quite an unreal feeling that I got. Like a nightmare, basically.

I bet in your case it's extra rough since you looked up to your friend. You should still try to stay together with your other friends and not let the friend group die! Ask them out for dinner or for drinks, perhaps?

You sound lovely.

To be honest, I don’t think philosophy is going to do it. You can find plenty of ‘Consolations of Philosophy’ books out there, but it seems like many of these writers were still horrifically depressed and no level of deep introspection was going to change that.

I would unironically suggest getting a therapist and buy some self-help books. Intellectually eliminating depression seems like a non-starter since it is that introspective intellectualization that probably exacerbates if not causes the feeling in the first place. Go up a level in simplicity and practice some form of CBT in a way that tricks you. It never really goes away, anon. I’m sorry.
