19713945 No.19713945[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

There's 8 different boards dedicated to video games. Why can't literature have a couple more boards? I think it'd foster deeper conversation. Imagine boards specifically for fiction, philosophy, and religion. What does /lit/ think?
Mods please don't delete. I think this is a great discussion topic for us /lit/izens.

I'mma stop you right there. /his/ was supposed to level off into a board that spoke Greek, discussed the trading and distilling and political implications of port wine, and documented early Mongolian hunting eagle harness fashioning. Probably not a terrible idea with the rise of Korean media. People have on multiple occasions attempted to argue that Korean manhwa should be allowed on /a/ and most /a/ users pushed back against this, wishing to maintain the distinction between Korean and Japanese comics. Ultimately they get told to go to /co/ which primarily focuses on Western (trash) comics and isn't really a suitable board for them either.

>> No.19719857

/v/ has 8 sub boards because /v/ is a disproportionately popular board and is extremely cancerous. Adding additional sub boards has actually only increased the cancer by siphoning away every subculture and demographic group that actually plays videogames into a tiny little community that can then not self-sustain and simply dies.
Creating sub boards only divides the posting audiences and weakens both boards, while creating an inflammatory environment that is usually stoked by crossposters. We already see this between /lit/ and /his/, thanks in large part to /his/ being a containment board.
If you haven't been on 4chan since before the creation of /v/'s sub boards then you lack the practical experience to know what's going to happen when you start splitting boards.
There is ultimately just not that much new discussion to be had under the topic of literature THAT A POPULATION WILL ACTUALLY BOTHER SUSTAINING. If you want uber niche conversation about topics only you and 2 other people on the planet care about, find a traditional forum that does not prioritize content by user engagement instead of wrecking a 4chan board for no discernible gain.
