It's amazing what several generations raised under unrestrained cultural capitalism can produce. Anything of cultural value must be maximized for productivity, it can't have inherent value (even though this raises the question of what productivity even is, and who defines it). Furthermore, the whole trend about discussing and reading ABOUT books rather than reading books is shameful. I only have facebook as a social media from middle school and I occasionally check it out, and the amount of book "meme pages" shilled to me is astounding, especially since they all jerk off to the idea of books without reading them. I constantly see people giggle about buying dozens of books without ever fucking reading them it's maddening. I just want a person to talk about literature with, without them turning "reader" into a one dimensional personality complex.
