The Danish language is the most meme-tier language I have ever encountered. I lived there for 18 months. Even Danes themselves seem to sometimes fall into muddles when they talk to each other. In any case, the first Danish phrase you learn is "hvad siger du?" which means "what did you say" and is pronounced roughly like the English word "vast" -- provided that you say it as fast and imprecisely as you can (really).

One time, shortly after I arrived, I met some new colleagues and I attempted to introduce myself in Danish. They looked at me with utter bewilderment, looks which gradually transitioned to horror as they realized what I had tried to do. After that, I decided it was actually more useful to try to improve my spoken English, which they speak almost as rapidly as they speak their own tongue.

However, I did pick up the written language more or less. It's actually very nice. It's a bit like German in terms of purity and vigour, but without any of the autistic grammar and weird sentence ordering. And Danish literature is based af. Kierkegaard is my second favorite philosopher (after Kant).

No German actually is a lot better because at least it enunciates a lot more, Danes don't care to enunciate at all, in fact they take pride in swallowing vowels.

That's what he said, isn't it? He's talking about the written language here, just forget about pronunciation and it's quite nice.

My mother is Danish and I have to say I much prefer how Swedish sounds.
