If you're looking for a realist approach I highly recommend pic related. The opening chapter on Dante alone is well worth reading

They don't. Central planning is a better design. It fails when it is abandoned. You don't need to have equality. You can have a totally meritocratic, inegalitarian, Darwinian planned economy.

Interesting. Were there any Marxists/socialists who espoused this kind of system?

i bought this when i was 11 and to this day i've read as much of it as was quoted on the back:

“But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case it is unfit to exist.”

i like when people question now why americans have lost their minds when if you know enough about history it's that the postwar consensus was a historic aberration and artificial normalcy. old weird america was always lurking below the surface and has begun to erupt as neoliberal capitalism eroded all the seals carefully deployed to suppress it

Diplomacy is mostly just a history of the art of diplomacy starting in the 1600s, although his own interpretations and applied theory of realpolitik are apparent. I haven't read his other books aside from his doctoral thesis, which is also excellent.

If you want more relevant material to practitioners of grand strategy today, read Brzezinski's books.
