>finally read Bakker
>it's actually really good except the one Mary Sue hero is OP
>get towards the end of book three
>Khellus is obviously supposed to be that bad guy if you take time to think about it, I've been mind raped like everyone else.
I'm pissed.

How do /sffg/ folks who've seen four more books of this dude still represent him as a hero?

he's based, he's not a hero but an extreme take on the ends justify the means

You don't know what "Mary Sue" means. Kellhus is the exact opposite of that.

From the mundane material human perspective he is a horrifying autistic supercomputer.

Then in the second series where you start to see what is beyond the scope of the human world, the supernatural or cosmic, you start to think "eh, maybe he is not so bad".

Most of the interesting stuff Bakker had is presented more succinctly, if with worse prose and a less interesting setting in Neuropath.

I think the utilitarian logic of Khellus, and the fact that both his opponents are so evil, and the other characters so flawed, is really good framing to get a modern audience to be seduced by Khellus. But at least in the first series, he is very much a villan. I think the various twists that get you there and let you see how you've been seduced is really solid work.

Bakker’s books are pretty bad, even for genre fiction. It's laughable dogshit for teenagers. Barely above Sanderson tier.

You also forgot to mention that the author let his leftist politics seep into his story. It’s the main reason why he has such a large reddit fanbase.

His personal politics manifested in his writings. Every single male character he writes is an absolute asshole, even the ones that aren't rapists. To Bakker, all masculinity is inherently toxic masculinity, the simple fact that all his male characters use the term "womanish" as an insult makes that blatantly obvious. In addition, he falls into the same trap that all leftists do and makes EVERYTHING about sex, about who is fucking who, who wants to fuck who, and all the bad guys just want to fuck everyone, because Americanized leftoids are obsessed with sex before everything else.
