Why do people that like philosophy and/or /lit/ apparently also appreciate Japanese animation of young women?

I like anime.

My literature backlog takes priority over my anime backlog though.

So I end up rarely watching anime.

I have a shittone of stuff to read if I ever want to make it as a writer

Madoka is my favorite show though.

Yes. I want to write a work that is meaningful to myself, but I'm also looking to appeal to the young adult demographic (think Hunger Games or Harry Potter) to make money.

It sometimes eases the pain for whatever reason.
Not always, but sometimes.

As usual it's a way for civilized man to compartmentalize his sexual / more loving desires and fantasies into the abstract, a idealization of the feminine without any of the baggage of reality. Monk types also did this with the virgin Mary since the middle ages. Anime is just the medium of the era we find ourselves in, and our capacity to create increasingly disconnected depictions of these fantasies from reality is just another way man is drifting more into the abstract

I haven't watched anime in years but when I did I appreciated that the easily consumable moe shows were just about people leading simple, pure lives. I think it also brought out some paternal instinct as well.
I'm not sure why I stopped enjoying it. I guess you can only run from reality for so long.

Its like asking why you like a book.

Watch a great show and wonder why people like it. That's how it works with anime or anything else.

I find comfort in the simple and predictable storytelling that anime provides.

Don't know about you but anime autism can bring forth feelings that reading cannot. It's a medium of animation that also comes with music and voice-acting, focused mostly on depicting idealized caricatures of humans. It's a great way of telling a story focusing more on the visual-audio aspect. It can deliver moments that even the greates real-life actors and the most expensive movie effects cannot, with just an ounce of the effort and money required for movies. Japs are quintessentialy shit at writing long stories and endings but they know how to write -fun- stuff. Most series are not very intellectually stimulating but they make up for it in sensory and emotional stimulation. It's also one of the less pozzed entertainment mediums today. I read more than I watch anime like 10 to 1, sometimes I go months on end without watching anime but I always come back.

Because 3D is limited in the creative freedom in expression compared to 2D drawings. (or at least until 3D morphs into artificial 3D due to 2D animation tricks)
The brain gets exhausted just as the body does, but isn’t ready yet for sleep or simple lounging; Anime fits that nieche.

animefags make up an elite class of posters who rule /lit/ through the quality, levity, and piercing insight of their threads. It may be too strong to say that anime causes such an elevated state of being, but there is certainly an elective affinity between the two.
