Well, the Benatar argument is that there is an asymmetry. A small amount of suffering weighs more than an abundance of "beauty" or rather pleasure, which I imagine one derives from beauty.

This is basically christianity vs gnosticism. The christians think god as this sort of pure and good being, and worshipping him and the teachings of christ will better humanity. Gnostics think of god as a malevolent demiurge who is indifferent to humanity and that our soul is separate from the body and we must transgress from our physical desires to better the world.
