What does /lit/ think of the late italian writer and editor, Roberto Calasso? Is his bibliography really worth exploring? Is there anything that stood out to you while reading his works?

books used to be so beautiful bros... the uniformity of the editions and the subtle diversity in publishers. compare this to a shelf full of penguin classics and oxford paperbacks.

I will be getting to The Marriage of Cadmus and Harmony shortly

The Marriage of Cadmus and Harmony is truly a beautiful work. It's the best treatment of the greek myths that I've come across. He respects myth and the traditions of the myths unlike any other modern writer. Theirs no ulterior motive like you can sense in so many others, he's not 'mining' or abusing the stories for any historical/ethnographic/esoteric/hermetic/selfdelusionaljerkoff material. I also recommend Literature and the Gods. Looking forward to reading The Book of all Books.

what's really interesting about great authors is the depth and variety of their library, which gives them sweet authentic edge over anyone else. they don't read meme books, they read whatever they genuinely care about no matter how out of vogue or obscure it may seem, and judging from the works that are sitting behind bob, it unsurprisingly applies to a great man of letters such as him too. i wish all of those books could be identified.

He was a genius. Start with Cadmus and Harmony or The Ruin of Kasch.

You're right bro. Calasso brought back to Italy the beautiful edition, in the style of Aldo Manuzio. His Adelphi books are modern but elegant and resistant at the same time.
