How do you concentrate on your reading? I find that every few minutes my mind wanders off and I have to reread the last half a page

Concentration is a trainable faculty, there are physical changes in the brain that take place when it is frequently employed which make it easier and more passive to take advantage of. Put in reading time regularly, like an hour a day minimum, broken into two thirty minute sections of you must (but not much shorter). Neuroplasticity will then work its magic over time.

>Neuroplasticity

Absolutely this OP. This is why it's so important for kids to read. The human brain is most easily molded in childhood because it's still forming during the critical learning period, in fact scientist used to think that only young brains could be molded, but that's not true. Adults can "rewire" their brains too, it just takes a little longer because we lose neurons as we age, but the good news is that even adults have neural stem cells which can make new neurons and neural connections. There's no "trick" to it, it literally boils down to becoming what you repeatedly do. If you read a lot, you're going to be a good reader, or better than you were when you started.

I recommend reading a lot of things that you like. Horror, erotic literature, comedy, etc. are all things that you'll find easier to focus on, and it'll train your brain to better concentrate on written words. So to quote basically every teacher ever, "read more!"

Your picture and this comment explains why. The more you coom and consume sexual material and engage in sexual behaviors, the larger this takes up residence in the brain. Because it is more instinctual, its urges are stronger and outcompete those for reading, especially when reinforced. Stop watching porn, stop having sex, stop thinking sexual thoughts for months and compare the before and after. You get distracted because the microcurrents in your brain are primed to trigger most of your motives toward the end of sex or masturbation.

>> No.18846993

just refocus on the book or find a more interesting one. it gets easier and eventually it won't take effort at all

Worse for your brain than porn. Moment arousal starts, your prefrontal functioning goes down the drain, and ends flow state. You associate reading with this, you're never going to make it and are just going to get distracted with masturbation or sex, then not feel like reading anymore.

stop consuming social media

stop watching movies

stop changing context every 2 minutes, from instagram to twitter to 4chan to reddit to instagram to twitter to 4chan to facebook

do nothing but read books

your brain will adapt, it always does

every day, every hour, every minute

or don't and be filtered

This. If you read "intellectual" (tends to be a bit boring, and hard to follow) books as someone who doesn't read much, the act of reading tends to devolve into a chore and therefore something you rather avoid in favor of more easily digestible media. Try to read something you find interesting, even if the book doesn't make you "smarter" because reading is a skill and improves the more time you put into it.

Meditation for sure. The problem is people don't tell you how to employ it for this. Thoughts are like clouds, you can either chase them and go off on your tangent or you can let them pass. They always seem really important, especially anxious ones, but I can almost guarantee they aren't and will be remembered later. If they are important, write them down. Then forget about them for the time you must focus on reading. All about doing one thing at a time.

This is just an excuse to not put in the effort. Self-defeating loser. It's not ADHD but your medication that would be the problem, neither stop you from carefully fixing your brain though. It's not like something simple and blatant, such as height. This is your brain and it's working fine.

Severe cardiovascular exercise, everyday or every other day. It increases serotonin available to the central nervous system, which improves concentration and mood.

This is the same neurotransmitter that the Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) drug used for depression artificially makes available.
