I'm reading the Ego and Its Own right now and I genuinely want to discuss it with other anons, but for some reason Stirner only attracts memelords.

It's not that he attracts memelords, he makes people into memelords. He said everything you can say, ended philosophy and all there is left for us is to laugh about it and make memes.

It's actually been a week since I've read it, but as I was reading about how a boy first learns that his parents have authority, then the state, and finally God, I couldn't help but think about how all those things are collapsing in the west in the reverse order. First we killed God in the 1800s, then we killed the concept of the state with globalism, and we're the concept of the nuclear family, or even the family as a source of authority, is almost entirely done. It honestly feels like the world is ending, and that everything natural as we know it is being uprooted.

Good. Appeal to nature is for cucks. Stirner should have taught you that.

But to Stirner this doesnt matter. The idea that this wedding is somehow wrong or right is just a spook. The core of egoism is not giving a shit.

Not really. Egoism is more about not letting fixed ideas like right or wrong to lord over you and your actions. It doesn’t mean you have to allow things that disgust you to continue.

The thing with Saint Max is that his book is a pretty serious piece of philosophy, but also its quite a funny piece of literature to read. Which makes sense considering his comtemparies noted him for being a great and funny guy to be around. He accomplished his goal it the most self fulling way.

Stirner unironically helped me break free from my edgy teen phase and be more comfortable with showing some care to my parents, I was very spooked by some misguided sense of cold emotionless masculinity.
really glad I became closer with my dad before he passed away.

Me too. I became more caring after abolishing caring as some kind of law to be upheld.

That's a nice story anon.

I used to bash self help books as an edgy little teenager as well as new age spirituality books aimed at average people who are "spiritual but not religious." I thought self help was for pussies and if you want to read spirituality you should become an autistic superman like me and read Plato ten hours a day because you have no job. Then I got older and realized how much of a tremendous positive effect those books often have on people and how they even open them up to other things like Plato, because not everybody arrives at Plato the way my autistic ass did. Then I even read some of them and realized there was a lot of timeless wisdom in them, a bit like how ancient and medieval people must have repeated the wisdom of their sacred books to eachother when they had minimal literacy but still knew it by heart.

I look back at my edgy teenage self and I don't hate him but I do smile at how he thought he had it all figured out. Being harsh and having high standards in life are often necessary, but knowing when they're necessary takes time and experience. It's like you start with a lightbulb that shines indiscriminately in all directions so the only options are on/off, but as you get older it becomes a flashlight you can direct when and where it's actually needed. For example you can't see the stars at night if you've got a light blasting in your face so sometimes it's not needed at all, sometimes your "light" was actually obscuring much deeper and more powerful lights all along.
