I'd rather read translation than pretend to understand the nuances of a dead language.

I am too small brained and lacking in discipline, I do study them casually though especially Latin. Very comfy reading dual language roman texts

If you know French at a literate level it's already decipherable. If you also know standard Italian it's transparent.

your guess is good as mine, so far i've been surface level while doing other stuff, some of joe rogans guests have put my ear to it over the years, been wanting to delve more into the compiled research published. and Violet Myers and Ella Knox are more based than most of the pawgs boys here like to simp for, just throwing that out there

Greek is all you need and has all the literature that matters. Learn that then something exotic like Sanskrit or Classical Chinese for maximum exposure to interesting material.

Well then. I've got some Miguel León-Portilla and liked it, he has some books in english. Check out Aztec Philosophy: Understanding a World in Motion too.

This is the impression I've gotten. Greek has tons of important texts, and even some untranslated works. Is there a point in learning Latin? I can't think of many important works written in Latin, and all the ancient texts are translated. What's Latin got? Is there some corpus of texts from the middle ages full of wisdom that's somehow never been untranslated?

If you really like the middle ages and/or the Catholic church, or really want to read certain Latin renaissance era texts those would be legit reasons. I'd put my own personal preference for learning ancient languages at
>Greek
>Chinese
>Sanskrit
>Latin
based on the philosophy, history, and literature available. Wish I had time to learn them all.
