It's good, but it's about teenage girls with hysteria and social pressure more than trannies. It's also written by journalist so it's more reportage than a coherent dissection of all available information. If you like books about hysterias, then it's a nice addition. If you're more into internet arguments about trannies y/n, then you would probably miss its point so broadly that it would be a weird cherry picking experience.

This is closer but it's not framed as not being Stacy. It's framed as a form of teenaged rebellion against parents who are liberal. Because dying your hair or getting something pierced or even coming out as gay doesn't get a reaction of OMFG YOU ARE GROUNDED FOREVER and instead gets "wow so cool" from their parents, teenaged girls have to find something more extreme to make their parents have an argument with them.
Fitting in with an online community is part of it, but very little of it is about not being Stacy; about the closest you could get to that reasoning in the book is her argument that had these kids been born in the 90s, they would be on the anorexia trend instead of this one.

It's much like giving a report on The Taming of the Shrew and saying "it's about a girl who eats three bears' porridge". Yes, you are describing a text, but not the one in question and you could not have got that information from the source you're claiming to have found it in.
There's two mentions of Tavistock in the book: one is about the resignation of an official after a report critical of putting people into an affirmative screening process for drugs, and the other is from a doctor claiming the recommendations of the report have to be followed and that people who misconstrue the effects of drugs are not scientifically justified. Concluding from that they're likely to sue in governments which have entirely different health care set ups from that, and ignoring that from the book the implication is that the UK is changing away from the model the US is pursuing, is a leap of imagination. The Taming of the Shrew does have a girl, but the bears aren't there.

Anon hasn't read the book either, but there's a great focus in it on insurance and how these kids being young will mean they probably have years left on their parents insurance, along with some insane stats on how women transitioning to males have started to dominate the surgeries going from barely perceptible to well over half the surgeries within a few years. The especially troubling thing about the way surgeries are regulated is because for so long trannies were male, most of the "needs psychological assessment" steps don't exist for women: you can get boobs cut off because you want to (because of trends around breast cancer prevention and back pain) and sterilised more easily (because of campaigns to extend nonhormonal birth control to younger women than they used be prescribed)
