I cannot speak for the rest but the Philippines actually has literary circles, albeit reclusive and pretty much invisible. The culture itself does not recognize aesthetic pleasure, but this must be the same for all developing nations, everything should regards the striving for capital propensity, otherwise its a waste of time. They have no Goethe, or Shakespeare and the only person Filipinos really pride in is Rizal, whose celebration is not because of poetics or prose either, but in instigating the liberation movement... still people I met understood classical texts. I went to medical school in Cebu and it surprised me how most of the students were familiar with the Greco-Roman corpus, though this is a very small collegiate sample.
