What is your favorite part of this book? Is it the one where dumb people are placed in power, where history is being rewritten, where language is changed and dumbed down, where constant surveillance happens, where human dignity and individuality is gone, where exercises are on the tv, where freedom is a foreign concept...which one?

It reminds me of Youtube. They know my deepest fears. There are cultures that use fear and torture to brutalize people in camps just like in this book, is that interesting?

page 36, Winston is watching the telescreen while his mind drifts. He begins to think about the way in which the Party has erased the past while the instructor on the telescreen is forcing him to do exercises. Then, the "shrewish voice" of the exercise instructor on the telescreen is directed at Winston. The instructor calls him "6079 Smith W" and tells him to "bend lower!" Then, there is the following description of Winston:

"A sudden hot sweat had broken out all over Winston's body. His face remained completely inscrutable. Never show dismay! Never show resentment! A single flicker of the eyes could give you away" (page 36).

Don't give a shit about any of those.
Just wanted to read more about the three superstates dunking on each other in their warzones.

I like how the first part doesn't give a shit about the details and it is more or less a satire of hierarchy. I am currently re reading it and I almost wished it never got into how the world actually works because it could just as easily been a giant schizo post with an unreliable narrator critiquing society.

I found that part with Comrade Ogilvy hilarious.
