Same with film majors, I took some film classes as electives and whenever we were asked what our favorite films were as an ice-breaker nobody could name a film that wasn't American or made before the 2000s. Also, nobody watched films outside of what we were assigned to watch for class. I've always wondered why it's like this

Don’t bother trying to reason with these smooth brains, they hardly even believe what they’re saying. The ulterior motive behind saying all engineers are unhappy or brainwashed or whatever is that they can’t accept the fact that people can be happy/content working in companies and contributing to a capitalist society. Museums/Libraries are institutions of appropriation that glorify colonialism and privilege masters tools, there probably won't be any museums/libraries in 20 years. There will be archivists, but to work with objects of any inequitable sensitivity will require extensive background checks and diversity education to weed out the incorrigible. Consulting will be minimized by further digitization and restrictions on producible content. Independent galleries may be operational, but as a former '4channer' you'll be barred for distribution of unsanctioned content and media.

Did you also do a state teaching license program bundled into your degree? We have to do a completely separate program here. I'm gonna have to spend at least another year in uni getting a 1-year-post-degree-education-degree-degree.
>May teach overseas in a few years, idk.
Same! I actually had a job lined up in China, but coronachan shut that down. Looking at online ESL until I can either go teach abroad for a few years or begin the aforementioned post-degree-degree.
>Do Canadians expect their history teachers to coach?
Yea I'll probably get dragged into coaching tennis or something. Not the end of the world, I suppose. IDK if you could do it, but I had a few teachers in HS set up interesting clubs to get out of shittier extracurricular obligations. Had a hearthstone club, among others. Might be worth looking into if you want to avoid football field sharters. You could maybe even spin a book club.

I'm kind of on the fence in that regard but I have some ideas. I haven't had any filmmaking experiences, so for starters I think I'll pick up a camera when I have the money and film stuff that I find interesting in my city and make it interesting/experimental in a way - I've thought about making some kind of short film in the pov of a schizo neet. I know it's kinda cliche and stupid but it's something that doesn't take a lot of budget and I can do by myself. I know there's plenty of interesting stuff to film where I live.
For actual movies, I've got some ideas in my head but I haven't written them down. It's kind of intermingled with my idea for a novel though. I guess in terms of style it would be in the lines of stanley kubrick, robert eggers and gaspar noe - these aren't my particular favorites but if I had to make a movie I'd do it in that type of fashion.

Alternative certification and it's bizarre. You spend multiple months in "training" doing online modules and observing classes before you are a probationary teacher. After that you need one year of experience as a full time teacher at an accredited district in order to receive your license. It's a whole lotta bureaucratic hoops to jump through but nothing inherently difficult.

You bring up a great idea with whoring myself as a club supervisor; I'd much rather lead chess, gardening, and film club over coaching. However, for 57k a year I'd happily act like I know anything about tennis or track.

Considering I'm practically required to learn Spanish as whites make up about 12% of your average Texan school district, I've thought about teaching overseas in Latin America versus China or Japan for the unique opportunities that may come from it.

Sometimes I still think I should have suffered through a Math or Biology degree just for the ease of placement as a teacher. Districts are giving sign on bonuses because they're in such high demand. BUT I wouldn't be able to talk about Hitler and that's too much fun to miss out on.

Classics are unsurprisingly not that popular in my central euro country and most people who go into it go into it are women or guys who chose it because they saw 300 or that Spartacus show.

I chose it because it is genuinely the field that interests me the most (more specifically I'm into hellenism [indo-greek civilization especially], Byzantium, and late antiquity) and I sincerely hope that I will be able to learn a lot and use the linguistic/translation related knowledge I acquire during it to become a better translator afterwards, a master's program that I plan on doing right after as an English/German translator.

I'm 18 and I haven't yet chosen a career.
My passion is in humanities, and if I were to choose a career in that area, it'd be political sciences or philosophy.
However, because I don't want to die from starvation, I'm considering informatic or industrial engineering.
What would be some /lit/ advice? Should I follow my passion or be prudent and choose something safe?

good fucking luck
>What would be some /lit/ advice? Should I follow my passion or be prudent and choose something safe?
Find a tolerable career path that will allow you to live comfortably and focus on your passions after hours. Don't ruin your life by swamping yourself with debt and an ostensibly useless degree. Honestly I'd spend at least a year being a wagie to think long and hard about what kind of life situation you want. Want a cabin in Montana or an apartment in New York? Want to stay in your home country or move abroad? Want to work 20 hours per week or 60 hours per week? Find out how much money you're going to want (within reason) and act on that.

I was originally a History major, left then cucked myself into doing accounting then literally first day of our virtual class I dropped it. The format of classes and the entire system of schools makes me hate learning even though I love reading and learning I just do it better on my own. Currently working at friends family restaurant literally rent free, after the shop closes down im going try a trade and maybe open my own shop with earnings. If im lucky one of hobbies (writing, music, chemistry) will take off and I wont even need a trade. Who knows but college doesnt work for me personally, I need freedom

Dont go to college, go experience life and actually understand yourself, you’re a fucking child. Understanding yourself can mean different things, camping, traveling, instense study, working a wagie job, etc. Just dont commit the next 4+ years of your fucking life picking something you think you like because its the closest guess you have. You have way more fucking time than you think and you dont need nearly as much as you think you do that warrants college so you should take at least a year gap and make sure you’re away from people and not stressed out. Then you may have a better understanding

What the other anon said. Stop worrying about money, full stop. Live off purely what you need because its only what you need. Doing that will in turn make you rich and even if it doesn’t you know to be resourceful so you dont care either way and you have a job that makes you want to blow your brains out for being painfully boring. Worked min wage at a pet store for two years before making double that for the government and still living on food stamps. Also your second statement is exactly what I'm telling you to do, just don't stress about how much money you make so long as your saving part of your paycheck each month. You know how you can just "tell" somebody is an architect sometimes (especially students). Like they dress in this faux artsy sophisticated way and carry themselves with an air of superiority because the subject is surrounded by so much mystique and historical prestige? Everything is super deep, they'll walk into a place and start scanning the walls chuckling to themselves, hoping somebody asks them what they are thinking about. They'll have an opinion on everything.
Thats why its for fags. Also, its full of women sometimes

I've got an architecture friend who looks and acts pretty normal. She might be the minority though.
Must be because of the lecturer's influence, since most of them are post-modernist fags themselves who delight at the thought of becoming the next Gehry, and insist on teaching their students to be pretentious fags who will inflict their structural abominations on the eyes of civilisations while acting as if they have achieved the highest form of artistry.

Accounting. I don't actually respect it much and I certainly don't enjoy the classes, but I'll confess that I do like having some niche expertise on a subject, even one as trivial as accounting. I've been looking at masters programs in other subjects that I might be able to do and none of them seem good. They either demand too many prereqs or it's totally inane. I'd love to be firmly branched out into another profession such engineering, comp sci, or even medicine, but it's not looking good unless I want some IT degree. Alternatively, I'd like to do something like Classics. At this rate, I'm all but certain to do either a Masters in Accounting, a Masters in Political Science (easy), or just taking random undergrad classes to hit 150 credits.

Economics is better than political science because it's business related and this gives it more respect. Business and economic degrees can be good for diplomats who focus on economic relations.
