That's a feature, not a bug. I read the New Sun series twice and noticed so many small details I missed the first time, and I'm sure if I reread it again I'll notice even more things.

Nope. Gene Wolfe goes beyond just paperback fantasy. He's on the level of many writers that are seen as literary. Martin never leaves genre.
