I just read a few pages worth of excerpts from "The Nickel Boys." Really milquetoast, pedestrian stuff. Very little artistry in the prose. If he was held to the standards that a white man is held to his books would go unpublished, I suspect.

I read the first couple of pages, and unless it changes pretty drastically later on, it seemed like the most dull, cliche pandering to liberals one could imagine. It’s like his publisher told him that they needed a novel to reach the Hamilton audience.

I think the artistic class is so devoid of any taste and standards that almost nothing they like in any capacity can be any good. It's only worth paying attention to these awards to see the kinds of trends our cultural overlords are currently endorsing.
