Nope, I admit I didn't look too hard either, but it's mostly reminiscent of wh40k Inquisitorial stuff (which I enjoy) but nothing where it's more rooted in the "contemporary world", not sure how to describe it but I guess Jericho is urban fantasy? I've read some Inquisition supplements and wiki entries for Vampire the Masquerade too and it somewhat helped me scratch that itch.

Against the Gods is pretty great, BUT I would recommend anyone looking to start a webnovel to only read those that are Completed. Nothing is more frustrating than getting invested into a world and storyline only for there to be no conclusion.

Warlock of the Magus World is one I would highly recommend. AND it is completed.

It's an illustration made in the Eastern style which features Lovecraftian elements, and is as relevant as a Western one. The only thing that triggers your inner Redditor is the fact that the picture is made in an "anime" style, which doesn't matter because it is still relevant to the topic of /sffg/.

Man, weebs have their brain completely fried. They consume the Japanese equivalent of American media which means they consume the Japanese equivalent of American propaganda but they somehow still think Japan is better despite pulling the exact same shit, doesn't do it which is a blatant lie to keep their worldview in check that Japan is always "special" or they just flat out don't realize it because the dogma that Japan is "cool and different" was so effectively planted in their brain via the same Japanese propaganda that they now defend.
And then they'll cry about China making anime and South Korea stealing Japan's spotlight with Kpop.

The series is actually a collection of short stories collected into a trilogy. No wonder you thought it was unfocused, going into it without knowing about it.

That's Asimov for you. Characters isn't his focus, society is. Most his stories are like "how would a society like this work" or "what would this society react to this..." He does have some character focused stories, but most of them are like that.

Need help with suggestions. I feel like I've read all the most popular series and can't find anything to hook me anymore. I just don't feel anything with that oomph that makes you keep reading

What I enjoyed: stormlight, WoT, realm of elderlings, kingkiller, books of babel, that one series with the guy who calls wolf's or something about drum beats and fire princess that gets a burned face, lightbringer, cradle, a song of fire and ice

What I dropped: riyria, king of thorns (dropped after 2nd book), first law (dropped after second book), codex alexia (after like 3rd book), Thomas covenant (halfway through book one, not sure if I want to continue), malazan (dropped after book 3, I honestly want to continue reading, but I've forgotten so much but still remember most the main events so it'll be a torture rereading it while knowing what's going to happen)

I'm impressed with his world building and cultivation mechanics it's well thought out and never feels too bullshit. If I had to nitpick one tiny thing it would be the constant repeats of information, he could tone that down a bit.

The interactions between Red Lotus and Duke Long + the backstories that relate to them is easily my favorite part of the novel.

Book 6 is very fun even if it's not completed. The author has said he wants to finish it, but who can know for certain? He's writing other stories now, and it's going to be difficult for him to continue. RI has basically been purged off the Chinese internet because the author parodied certain Chinese leaders and Fang Yuan's own morality, or lack of.

In book 6 there are a lot of other great backstories as well. I'm certain you'd love them.

I've always found Thieving Heaven to be very interesting, and more of his backstory comes forth in book 6.

As for Duke Long? One cannot help but feel both sympathy and rage at his conduct. What he did to Dragonkin... At the same time he kept true to his beliefs in Heavenly Court.

To be fair you can only really enjoy A Will Eternal if you've read a few novels and get how the author plays with the tropes, but it's really one of the best stories I've read.

Like the other guy said, you can go with the staples : Renegade Immortal, I shall seal the heavens, Desolate Era, Martial World...Coiling Dragon is the novel that made xianxia popular in the west some years ago if you're interested but I didn't like it that much.
They're all finished and have proved their worth overtime. They're also all what you'd expect from cultivation novels, without any big twist on the formula. Don't just pick some random shit from Webnovel.

Not that anon, but I've read it.

The book moves at a good pace, and has the standard riveting appeal of man against nature, and lost in the wild themes.

However, Andy Weir's bad science become a sever distraction all through the book. Space establishments filled to 1 atmosphere with nitrogen in there, 28,000kph vs 720kph turbulence comparisons missing the 1% atmosphere, Potatoes in space (really?!!), microwaving food that already got freeze-dried, statements like figuring out longitude requires precise time. Then the RTG is in the trailer, and yet he's fine after the roll-over, and for that matter, at one point the RTG keeps up with just the rover with some insulation ripped up, but at another point the RTG covers the rover, the trailer, and the really-awful bedroom tent! I think I am really glad the movie-makers ripped out a lot of it. There is perhaps a reason good authors (like Isaac Asimov) hand-wave over parts of science when they know the science is sketch; this author on the other hand goes on to blunder through precise descriptions which detract from the story. And therefore, compared to the movie, what is "additional" in the book is really all bad.

I will say however, that it is a fast paced read - a good airplane novel.
