Also how is The Secret History? I haven't read it because the only people talking about it are teenagers on Youtube and usually that's a surefire sign that a book is not worth reading

It's fun. Especially if you went to uni. If you read some of the greeks, you'll see some cool references. If you're a bit knowledgeable you'll a lot a mistake but it makes the characterisation better imo.

Not a galaxy-brain like Shakespeare or Tolstoy or even the great female writers like Eliot and the Brontës.

Nonetheless, I like her. She doesn’t take art as a didactic or political tool, she just revels in the aesthetic pleasure of literature and storytelling. She’s a mix of Nabokov and Dickens but less talented. I would be happy if there were more writers like her who liked writing fun stories that combine a respect and admiration for classic writers while having dramatic and exciting plots. And also the slice of life kind of stuff in the first half of The Secret History, and the stuff about the antique shop in The Goldfinch, was comfy, I really enjoyed that even though it wasn’t absolutely necessary to the plot.

And she’s hot.

yeah I think that's why she's more tolerable than other writers nowadays; she doesn't come off as pretentious and it seems like she's not aspiring to create high literature or anything like that, she's just trying to make something fun to read
