I quit the anime after the main character turned into a giant and never looked back. Berserk does everything it does better, and it isn't ending for a long, long time.

You're missing one of the best pieces of fiction of our generation if the ending doesn't shit the bed.

I still think Eren´s transition to becoming "Evil" was very poorly executed

it was telegraphed from the beginning, its fucking obvious that this was the direction it was always headed because SnK isnt doing anything any (anti-)war movie hasnt already attempted. and like every war movie in existence, "whoa morality is, like, grey, right?" doesnt work when all the juiciest bits of action are positioned heavily on the audience knowing exactly who is good and who is evil and being propagandized to root for the good guys. snk has done nothing that tomino didnt already do with ideon and gundam

Wow japanese fans are vocal about the new chapter and they are not happy. Theyre discontented with the anticlimactic death of eren and the whole psycho mikasa kissing a decapitated head and being a necrophiliac. I guess they were holding out hope for a different ending than game of thrones route. There's even a petition that's garnered thousands of signatures to have the chapter changed. Obviously that wont happen but it shows how unhappy they are.

When it comes to genre fiction, do the Japanese produce mostly mangas or do novels get made as well? Not light novels, like a traditional novel. You never hear about Japanese fantasy or scifi outside of manga or anime in the West. (Or at least I haven't).
