READ SPENGLER.

>> No.17773815

For what purpose? He has zero practical advice to offer anyone.

>> No.17773816

You notice the Junger guy has a little fan club because he actually posts quotes from Junger and even uploads of Junger's writings? Why don't you try that? Instead of starting every thread like this, start with a quote and some discussion of it to get people interested. He has books other than Decline, you know. Hour of Decision, Man and Technics. You have lots to choose from. People who like Spengler will actively avoid a meme thread like this because the content is irrelevant when the form itself is puerile.

Can someone fill me in on the content of DOTW? I started it and didn't really get that far because I have no idea where he's going and it's super long. Is it mostly a series of unbiased observations of European history and modernity? Is it political in nature or is that just Imperium? I know he's somewhat of an nrx fag, does any of his philosophy seep through the rest of this book or is that just his other works? Is there really much it even offers?

The problem with this kind of book is that if you manage to read a different kind of opinion than the predictable standard "nazi racism hitler baby eating cannibal six million evil book" that you can find on Wikipedia, reddit, or /his/, you are likely to get uncritical praise from RWs, who are the only people who would be willing to give it a fair judgment. It's very hard to find objective criticism on something like the Myth.

It's a pretty keyed-in work, he really saw the course of history at the time. But it's also packed to the gills with a sort of small-souled
>waaaaaah, all of history is just everyone being MEAN to GERMANY for NO REASON waaaaaah
kind of butthurt you find among Euros. The Nazis had a certain energy and vitality to them, and at times it feels to me like it comes dangerously close to a certain kind of low-nationalism that sees all of history as nothing more than bickering with some other ethnicity over twenty square miles of river valley on the border. It's a sort of high-time preference nationalism, focused solely on the "us vs them" of tomorrow rather than having any sort of conception of race or blood or ethnicity or soul or group-being as a sort of enduring thing.

It isn't always like this, but again, it comes close to it. It raises the worry that the Nazis would have gone from
>WE WUZ HYPERBOREANS so lets catalog the precise variations of the human body across the world to better understand the DEUTSCHE VOLKISCH SUPERIORITY
to
>WE WUZ HYPERBOREANS therefore all of history is about fighting with the french for a turnip field, FUCK YOU RUSSIA

To put it another way, the sort of mentality I'm being critical here is one that, if Germany were picked up and dropped on some alien planet with no other humans or intelligent life, would result in Space-Germany just sitting on its hands and not doing anything with the treasure-trove placed before it, but instead just endless butthurt over no longer being able to bicker with the French of Alsace-Lorraine.

Anyone have access to Spengler's unpublished works? I heard he was working on a thesis that adjusts his philosophy from considering civilizations as isolated and accidental to looking at the broader human timeline, with each culture being more sophisticated than the last. It sounded apocalyptic.

Spengler didn't really have a cyclical view of history. His view was more like a newly dug garden where you drop in a seed, and the seed turns into a flower then dies. Then you drop another seed. It turns into a completely different flower because it's a different species, but like any living thing flourishes then dies like the first flower. Then you scatter a handful of seeds, each a different species. Each seed is a culture. History "repeats" only if you consider the "lifecycle" of each culture following the same stages a repetition, but it isn't a cycle because civilizations don't "reproduce" so for each civilization it's just a single line that ends, and overall there is no larger cycle connecting between the civilizations. His view was more like "there is no line to history nor does history as a whole repeat in cycles, but civilizations within themselves follow a single line then die." Toynbee I think adapted Spengler's ideas to be more cyclical.
