Reminder: learning requires repetition and application. If you read a book once and never engage it again then you don't really know the content of that book!!!

You dont read fiction to learn. As for non-fiction: Most non-fiction is reader's digest so its sufficient to read it once to grasp the main points.

Youre reading crappy fiction if its purely candy with no insights.

If you expect to just get the main points after reading nonfiction then you should read a wikipedia synopsis instead of engaging with the book.

I'm spending the current decade making sure I've read the important canonical works of the world, not just from Europe and the United States, but from East Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. In the 2030s I will be primarily rereading my favorites.

It’s about immersion. The more you immerse yourself in something the more you’ll know. The thing is, you don’t have to study every topic like your writing a thesis unless it is useful to you or you enjoy it; otherwise just getting a general overview is fine. You can always come back to the top later and continue the immersion process to build of of what you gained before.

It’s just lifting but for your brain and perception/ worldview
