His apartment had a stack of books relating to policework and the occult. Watch the show.

He only reads on the occult because of his curiosity and need to understand insanity. It is the same reason why he has a cross in his room. As Christianity alludes him and he has one to remind him of something which is an eternal mystery to him.

He would probably cite actual lines out of this book without crediting it at all until anyone noticed, just like the writer of the show he was in did.

That's not it. He contemplates Christ on the cross because of his daughter dead. Every day for him is suffering that he puts himself through because of his conscious aversion to suicide and his desire to solve cases and help victims or get closure. His meditations are a relation of this to Christ's self-sacrifice

I remember better than food book reviews on youtube mentioned in one of his reviews that the book in question was used as inspiration for the character of rust but I can not remember the book.

He's contemptuous of Nietzsche because Nietzsche posits a joy to being that Rust does not recognize due to his own life experiences.
The post you are responding to is a Rust quote, demonstrating this.

Hmm, i always thought it had double meaning. It representing his pessimism and nihilism and him trying to understand, "what is the point in hope?" maybe i'm reading too much into it. It just seems to me that his lack of purpose and his drive to solve cases as intuition and to pay respects to his daughter are the multitude of reasons as to why he has the cross.

Emil Cioran's works.
Thomas Ligotti
Anything by Nietzsche

>> No.17611235

If anything Rust reads Schopenhauer, Cioran, Rimbaud, and Celine.

His story about his exploration of madness in narcotics reminded me of a Journey at the End of the Night. Where he knows the nitty gritty of some dogshit scenario he got himself into.

Obviously it isn't as descriptive or as fucked up as war, but it gets a similar point going.

He wouldn’t read Nietzsche, he’d just post his goodreads quote.
