>''Life is not a fairy tale''

Why do people say this nonsense? Fairy tales are chock full of sorrow and tragedy. Are Disney musicals all they know?

I've never heard this dumb sentence till you presented it, here. Are you sure you're not just making this dumb shit up?

i've never understood the difference between fantasy and fiction, but i know that the magical elements of fantasy are what distinguish it... until you get magical realism

You must be living under a sound proof rock then.

A quick Google search shows it is the title of "a book describing the life of American Idol (season 3) winner Fantasia Barrino, and her rise to national prominence."

Never heard of this Barrino person, and I'm glad. If knowing utterly asinine doshit like this is "living under a rock," I'll gladly take the characterization.

You know what? Forget I said anything.

Fantasy is a subgenre of fiction. Not all fiction contains fantastical elements.

why would the nose by golgoi be considered magical realism and thus fiction while say, an otherwise normal event like some guy hunting but while riding a unicorn be considered fantasy?

Life is not any kind of story whether your fairy tale is a tragedy or not. You are not a character in a play or a movie or a novel. You are not on a hero's journey, you do not have an introduction, climax and denoument. Other people do not exist as side characters to your story. Subconsciously accepting any of the aforementioned statements is called narcissism and should be grown out of as soon as possible.

You're being obtuse. When people say life is not a fairy tale, they're talking about the happy go lucky elements that are perceived to be supposedly in them. They're not talking about the quack psychological nonsense you're talking about.

You're obsessed with this phrase almost nobody says. You might as well rail about how people say "have your cake and eat it too."

You have no idea what obsession is. Talking about a common saying that is frequently used by people in a thread is not obsession. Don't use words that you don't understand. Use ones that are in your small vocabulary.

Where do you think stories come from? People live in arcs, struggle, overcome, and fade away. Who are you to judge someone that sees greatness in themselves or seeks out adventure?

Psychology isn't real. This need to reinterpret everything as pathological is probably why a sixth of the US is on psychiatric medication. You should try to grow out of your phase of diagnosing anonymous strangers with personality disorders because of the heinous sin of relating to characters in stories.

True. Psychology is nonsense mostly. 40% to 60% of its research and experiments cannot be replicated. It's the number one field suspect when it comes to the replication crisis. It's the pseudo's field of study.

Real life usually isnt. Real life is mediocre with few high or low moments.

Fantasy is about a world that is more simple then our own. So the fantasy hunter hunts a magical beast, using a magical beast and a magical weapon. None of these are real, so the depth of knowledge required is much lower.

A real hunter uses a dog to hunt a bear using a rifle. Those are really existing things, which follow rules, have certain behaviour. Etc anyone wriring the second story would get stuck on the real world complexity of describing a hunt.

>Are Disney musicals all they know?
basically yes. also they interpret fairytale as daydreaming and childhood in general. they see it as opposite to the adult, serious and rational life.
in a critical theory book, i dont remember well which one, the author says children´s literature is a nonsense terme, there is no literature for children, every literature is for all, something like that. at first i think that was stupid, but after read hans christian andersen i mostly agree.
little match girl is a fucking sad and beautiful story, i dont care.
