I'm a Christin, but Julian is an extremely important and brilliant leader in history, not just explains much about the relation between early Christianity and Paganism, but is also of an original philosophical value.

I once saw an old collection in a used store. Couldn’t get it at that moment, went back when I could and they were gone.

You don't, all of his works were destroyed. As Cyril of Alexandria tells us, his work "Contra Galileos" was so masterful, so powerful in its rhetoric, so glorious in its understanding of philosophy, that if a Christian were to so much as lay eyes upon it they would instantly realize the falsehood of Christianity and take up the worship of Zeus and the Divine Plato. Of course, one has to wonder then how Cyril managed to pick through the book and find the passages he could make witty zingers in response to (by his own admission, he only included in his rebuttal to Contra Galileos the passages that he could actually come up with a response to; this only about a third). Maybe he was an idiot. On the other hand, he might have just been hyping himself up. He'd go on to lead riots through Alexandria, breaking into people's houses and burning literally any books he could find that weren't the Bible.

It's novel, but honestly if you've ever actually looked into Christianity vs Atheism debates you've seen this all before. The Christians tip their fedoras and argue in favor of logic and reason, Julian responds with mysticism, faith, ethnoreligious nationalism, and hating Jews.

It's interesting that this work comes up first, as you'd think other's would take priority over a satire of himself.

As I said, Julian's work Contra Galileos, and Cyril of Alexandria and a few other Christian's rebuttals to it. The largest portion of it survives from Cyril, so his response is the one that people are most familiar with. Christian responses are essentially hyper-rationalism and arguing that it's absurd for Zeus to have blue eyes but Athena to have grey. Cyril personally rejects the idea of Greek philosophy as having any value, as anything the Greeks got right they just stole from the Jews anyways. Julian rejects this, as the Greeks are the greatest people on the planet and instead posits that everything the Jews got right, they got from the Greeks. Julian takes this ethnic nationalism a few steps further, essentially asking Christians why they would want to give up their own cultures, traditions, and languages in favor of those of the Jews, who are clearly an inferior people.

The issue of the Temple comes up, in that Julian wanted to rebuild the Temple. At this time all construction in the Empire has to be done by the Emperor, by both law and simple necessity. The crushing taxes meant no one had any money to build things; ironically, Julian's huge taxcuts resulted in the first series of Christian churches being built by the funding of Christians rather than the Emperor. The reasoning is that the Jews would go back to Israel and stop throwing revolts and committing banditry everywhere. It would also strike a massive blow to Christianity as at this time a large portion of Christians are converted Jews. Christian authors obviously didn't like where this was headed, as this completely fucks over the Christian prophesies surrounding the Temple and its destruction. It also ruins the broad project of converting God's Chosen People to Christianity so that they may lead Christendom (as Cyril points out, the Jews are the best people in the world, so they NEED to be Christian for the rest of the world's sake).
