What's the incentive at this point? Money, fame, glory, he already had them, and even if he published the end right now, he would never get them to a higher level than the one he reached at the height of this popularity. Some sarcastic, forgotten in a week newspaper footnotes would be his only reward.
We already know he won't write for pride, since he abandoned it all when he let D&D monstruosify his creation.

He's fat, old, lazy, rich and a gluttonous pig, he's had the ending to his books spoiled in advance in the lamest possible way. If you were him, would you have any real reason to finish it? He probably wants to, but why the fuck would he. It's a lot of effort and it gets him nothing he doesn't already have.

At least he will be remembered for a finished book series. Even if it will be a mediocre ending, it will be better than what we have now. Yes, he wont live very long to enjoy that anyway, but I would still want people to remember me in a positive light.

He is rich, old, and there are probably hot women who will suck his dick for no other reason than that he came up with game of thrones. And here you are, hating yourself at the prime of your life, having never experienced even a fraction of the pussy GRRM enjoys for conjuring such characters as Jon Snow into being. Publishing the next book of the song and ice and fire is just another way for him to make another million, an afterthought that hardly concerns him as he lives in such affluence that would make any Lannister blush. You await the scraps which expell from his dilapidated, stinky old asshole. And you will like it.

I interact with many famous people and there is NO ONE more bitter than an average (i.e. ugly) man who achieves fame and fortune late in life when he is too old to truly enjoy it. Especially when he's married and knows he'd lose half his $ to wifey upon divorce.

Worth a read?

>> No.17066903

I think the horrible reception of the last season of the show probably took the wind out of his sails. What little wind he had left.

Honestly, the show being shit is entirely his fault too. If he’d actually put out the books when he was supposed to, instead of releasing spin offs and writing blogs, D&D might have had something worthwhile to work from and could have made something that wasn’t complete and utter trite.

>> No.17066906

I find him to be enjoyable, his books are loaded with technical jargon but he breaks it down for the layman and the scenarios he outlines are fairly gripping. As far as genre fiction goes he’s always good for a read.

Books were secondary. Martin wanted to work on tv shows, not on novels. He said himself that he left to write because nobody could dictate what he makes and it would be all him without some producer sticking his nose in. He was pretty thrilled about the show being made and he even got to hire D&D himself, so everything was going swimmingly and he would never have to return to aSoIaF because he had GoT. Obviously, he lost control of the project and left seething. He refused to watch a single episode of GoT and hasn't written a chapter since.

Show went to shit before that. They condensed two seasons into one and deviated from the source material before they went out books to adapt. They really just wanted to start doing their own thing halfway through and it was a trainwreck.

Sanderson's popularity as an author rests entirely on his cult of personality as a "you can be a famous author like me" life coach. Try actually reading some of his books. Weak characterization - stereotypes with a few token quirks and flaws, sterile, mechanical magic systems, contrived, convenient plotting of the "there's a secret cave just between the city and the mines where we can train an army of 20.000 men"-variety, tired plot twists telegraphed so hard I can't believe the author thought he was being subtle - except his fanboys all recount being shocked and awed by the sudden developments. There is no discernable talent.
