communism will require spiritual development and growth in terms of generosity, inwardness and contentment with little on the part of every single person. So these things go hand in hand. I disagree with those who say you can force these qualities from the top because we must admit that there is an inner force in humans to control and dominate and get more for ourself. and if we don't master this we can never really hope to have a good society.

It just so happens that these qualities of generosity, contentment, and inner peace happen to be beneficial both for the individual and society as well, in addition to the environment. So when you can't make progress externally, make it internally, in your own heart.

The only way I can see communism "making it" is if it becomes part of a religious framework. For example, a "Catholic communist nation" that places the Pope as a general secretary or something like that. Modern China, although it is becoming more and more capitalist than communist, has adopted much of this religious aspect. It's why communist nations often ban religion; they want to be the only religion. I regard communists as the same thing as jihadists or crusaders.
