16960935 No.16960935[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

In the 19th century we had Dostoevsky, Balzac, Tolstoy, Flaubert, Turgenev, Maupassant, Chekov, Zola, Dickens, Dumas, Goethe, Hugo, Lermontov, Melville, Keats, Proust, Stendhal. In music there was Beethoven, Wagner, Haydn, Mahler, Bizet, Brahms, Chopin, Schubert, Lizst, Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Bellini, Prokofiev, Puccini, Bruckner, Rossini. In the 21st century we have basically nothing. Even in recent times like the 1960s where the Billboard charts had Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Otis Redding, Cream, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Donovan, Simon & Garfunkel compared to what we have now. Any books that go over why culture is so dead? Finding the little nuggets of gold take effort. No post modernists or people who are gonna try to tell me some retarded some shit some guy made on Ableton is equal to Beethoven

>> No.16961107

Tyler the creator is better than Otis, Simon and garfunkel are completely outmatched by modern songwriters. Animal collective is better than Beatles, etc etc. you’re up your own ass. Sorry

Something about Animal Collective's style makes it very easy to get bored of them, whereas you can listen to other artists time and time again and they never get old. Radiohead is the same way.

>> No.16961266

I feel exactly the opposite about AC, and the fact that you compare them to Radiohead shows me a lot about how you listen to music.

In particular, I don’t like most animal collective songs and don’t enjoy listening to them, but when the music makes sense for a moment it is beautiful. You seem to want breezy, passive listening, but some music is meant to be singular and rare. Hopefully this makes sense

>> No.16961294

I compared them because they share the same quality I mentioned. I said nothing about what style of music they create. Check your reading comprehension

The quality you mentioned is what I’m judging, retard. I’m expanding off of the idea of music getting old and the style of music you enjoy to make reasonable assumptions about how you listen to music.

No, it's because the Beatles 1965-1969 period is unmatched in popular music in the sheer # of great songs written, whereas Animal Collective have 3 or 4 good albums and a lot of trash.

This is a classic American cope for being BTFO in music in the 60s. The Beach Boys have Pet Sounds, which is pretty good, and a huge amount of throwaway trash. The Brian Wilson is a Genius meme was a marketing stunt that needs to die.

I said, certified freak
Seven days a week
Wet-ass pussy
Make that pull-out game weak, woo
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, you fucking with some wet-ass pussy
Bring a bucket and a mop for this wet-ass pussy
Give me everything you got for this wet-ass pussy
Beat it up, nigga, catch a charge
Extra large and extra hard
Put this pussy right in your face
Swipe your nose like a credit card
Hop on top, I wanna ride
I do a kegel while it's inside
Spit in my mouth, look in my eyes
This pussy is wet, come take a dive
Tie me up like I'm surprised
Let's role play, I'll wear a disguise
I want you to park that big Mack truck
Right in this little garage
Make it cream, make me scream
Out in public, make a scene
I don't cook, I don't clean
But let me tell you how I got this ring (ayy, ayy)
Gobble me, swallow me, drip down the side of me
Quick, jump out 'fore you let it get inside of me
I tell him where to put it, never tell him where I'm 'bout to be
I'll run down on him 'fore I have a nigga running me
Talk your shit, bite your lip
Ask for a car while you ride that dick (while you ride that dick)
You really ain't never gotta fuck him for a thang
He already made his mind up 'fore he came
Now get your boots and your coat
For this wet-ass pussy
He bought a phone just for pictures
Of this wet-ass pussy
Pay my tuition just to kiss me
On this wet-ass pussy
Now make it rain if you wanna
See some wet-ass pussy
Look, I need a hard hitter, I need a deep stroker
I need a Henny drinker, I need a weed smoker
Not a garden snake, I need a king cobra

Pussy A1, just like his credit
He got a beard, well, I'm tryna wet it
I let him taste it, now he diabetic
I don't wanna spit, I wanna gulp
I wanna gag, I wanna choke
I want you to touch that lil' dangly thing
That swing in the back of my throat
My head game is fire, punani Dasani
It's going in dry and it's coming out soggy
I ride on that thang like the cops is behind me
I spit on his mic and now he tryna sign me, woo
Your honor, I'm a freak bitch, handcuffs, leashes
Switch my wig, make him feel like he cheating
Put him on his knees, give him something to believe in
Never lost a fight, but I'm looking for a beating
In the food chain, I'm the one that eat ya
If he ate my ass, he's a bottom feeder
Big D stand for big demeanor
I could make you bust before I ever meet ya
If it don't hang, then he can't bang
You can't hurt my feelings, but I like pain
If he fuck me and ask, "Whose is it?"
When I ride the dick, I'ma spell my name
Ah (whores in this house)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, you fucking with some wet-ass pussy
Bring a bucket and a mop for this wet-ass pussy
Give me everything you got for this wet-ass pussy
Now from the top, make it drop

I believe this. Otis Redding is very good technically but the emotional center is unaffecting and dated. Tyler is very good technically and the soul of the music is modern. Hopefully that makes sense.

Tyler the creator is not a rapper and the direction of the music is not the same as rap. He is not a good rapper in the slightest, the best rapper if you are into literature and concept is Vince Staples. Tyler is a musician first.

For classical music, there's something called "contemporary classical music", which includes minimalism, holy minimalism, eclectic the various forms of serialism, music used in films, etc. You'd have to look up (I know more about the 20th century than this century). There's also of course modern jazz: free jazz, art jazz, world jazz, jazz fusion, etc. Here's a good review: https://lukemuehlhauser.com/a-beginners-guide-to-modern-art-jazz/
(that'd be for art music, sure there's also world music that in many cases involves people mixing many different world traditions into new music, but I don't know of individual artists...)
