Turns out this was right all along.

I remember when I got a copy of this when it was new, I was a freshmen at a third rate university and found its prose impenetrable. In fact, I remember wondering what they meant by "ancien regime" and having to look it up. Ahh, what a I pseud I was! (and in many ways still am)
