My favorite philosopher is indeed Plotinus! The reason why I like him more than anyone else is because I believe he is the culminating point of both Plato and Aristotle. I honestly believe he had almost everything right concerning the nature of thought and the mind - although a lot of what he says really is an "unpacking" of Aristotle, in my opinion, with additions coming from the mystical experiences he had, as well as some Plato. He is the pinnacle of ancient philosophy in terms of the insight he gets - too bad he writes very poorly in greek (despite producing wonderful metaphors sometimes). The literary crown is still in the hands of Plato, while Aristotle gets the crown for clarity. Plotinus gets that for being mostly right about everything.

I honestly believe Aristotle has probably be the smartest human being of which we have records, followed closely by Kant. Beside being horribly intelligent, reading him is like reading an alien who never received any sort of socialization and over-analysed everything, actually reaching insights no one thought possible. The question of "what is the cause of everything" is that of a literal child, but he autistically insisted so much in wanting to answer that he pooped out the metaphysics. Precisely. There is something intoxicating about Aristotle and his approach to knowledge. To think that he preemptively approached knowledge like a computer scientist via categories etc is enthralling. Even with his literary knowledge, I've grown more appreciative of the distinctions in his approach. I believe, thinking begins and ends with him but, at the same time, Platon is untouchable, in that all subsequent philosophy tries to expand on his thinking. Thank you for the response.
