This only works if you don't ever want to talk to that person for the rest of your life
>inb4 I don't want to talk to anyone
Then why post on 4chan?

No because after you run from them you can read the Wikipedia page

That's not the point idiot. Think about what would happen if you did that in real life, and then tried to talk to that person again.

Nah lads the most beautiful thing happened to me today at work. I was taking a load trolleys down the where they were getting loaded into trolleys with some other people and after we finish we're all just stood there chatting and mingling and that, then this one fella comes up to me and asks me what I've been doing with myself before the job. So I said I've just finished college this year and I'm just sort of working about and seeing what happens, so he asks what I was doing in college. Obviously first thing I say is English Literature, I said we did a load of American books, he starts talking about Jack Kerouac, so I'm like alright I like On the Road quite a bit I've got no issue with Kerouac. Then he asked me what my top tip for reading was, and I panicked a bit, and just went read Moby Dick probably, and he was oi that's a proper goodie that book. Never felt so blessed in my life.

Better cheat code
> yes I have read it, what did you think?
> he tells you his opinion
> that's an interesting take, I took more of a (slight permutation of his opinion) from it
> best case scenario, "ahh I can see where you're coming from" and then you debate the point instead of the book
> worst case scenario, "where did you get that from, he was pretty specific?"
> I'm sorry dude, I read it like 5 years ago, so I'm useless in a conversation of specifics, but I did find (other book) to be a decent contribution to the topic as well
The only way the second tactic won't work is if they're literally just looking to catch you up. If they do press harder you just say "dude I told you it's been 5 years, I'm trying to keep the conversation what else do you want?" And that'll keep the social credit on your side
Either way you get
> good, intelligent conversation
> you come out of it looking smarter
> you get a feel for whether you should read this book
Some call it dishonest, but it's honesty in it's product, not it's intention

Now that I think about it, the major reason I'm drawn to this board is knowledge of the fact that at least half of you are sociopaths.

i'm not interested in their opinion, only that they know i am more cultured and well-read than they are, and expect to bask in their admiration and respect. that is why i read difficult, obscure books.
