I recently reread Emma and watched the new. film. It made me realize how completely conservative Jane Austen's values were, then and now. It's all about forming proper stable matrimonies with your social, racial and class equals, so as to pass on land and property (which was fueled by British colonialism). There's very little that's feminist about it, especially in the contemporary sense of the term. It's about women and men finding their proper traditional place in society and building stable, mutually respectful relationships from which to establish white land-owning families.

Don't tell the SJWs, Jane Austen = white supremacy.
