I've read his essays on Serbia, and Tibet. They were very underwhelming. This was after reading several books about both subjects and interviewing Serbs, Croatians, Muslims, Albanians, Chinese, Uighurs, and Tibetans on the ground in their countries. Both essays just parroted the Serb Communist/ Chinese party line and said nothing new. He's a partisan Leninist who never left the cold war and while I respect his dedication I've never found him to be interesting at all. I don't hold a grudge against the author, but he's a thoroughly mediocre historian.

If you've spent your whole life reading propagandistic versions of liberal history the I can understand how you might find Parenti to be a breath of fresh air. Recommend me some of his domestic work which you find to be genuinely innovative and maybe I'll read it, but I'm sick of Leninists telling me to read his foreign policy stuff.
