Is there anything quite like this? I don't mean a fantasy work, necessarily but its fusion of Christianity and paganism, which allows it to touch something deep within the European consciousness. I'm not trying to claim that it's a pagan work. But its appropriation of pagan elements for its Christian purpose strikes allows it to encompass Europe's religious history and speak to the European soul in both its ancient and modern depths. I've never seen anything else quite like it, and it's the only work that's affected me in quite this way.

there's the icelandic sagas OP kind of related because their culture was both pagan and christian with sometimes priests living side by side with magicians and sorcerers, you'll hear true tales of ordinary people's and suddenly you'll have a zombie rampaging about and the heroes have to stop him, etc.

You should check out elder scrolls lore.
Prob one of the closer things to LOTR as far as fantasy goes.
The D&D lore is pretty cool as well.
The grimm stories are really cool to.
Maybe not directly what you're looking for as far as theme but these are my recommendations.
If you actually want a christian/pagan you don't have to look further than modern Christianity.

Nordic cultural mythos was entirely written down and Christianized by Christian monks, to the point where most of its characters, themes, and concepts are under the scrutiny of authenticity because it’s likely they were altered by scribes in an attempt at perennializing the culture’s beliefs as a gateway to Christianity’s takeover.

European identity only exists in opposition to the Muslim the world, created by the culture clash constructed by the Catholic Church at its lowest and most politically motivated point.
There is nothing ideologically or culturally which units all European nations, in fact at differing points in history, pretty much every major European culture made a conscious effort to distance themselves from being included as Europeans because the continent was seen as so barbarous.
>muh christian values
Hardly. The religion was inported from the Middle East and by the time it became the power structure in Europe, it was a shadow of its original self and was initially opposed wherever it tried to spread. Modern values which the West is proud of such as democracy and free thinking existed before Christianity’s arrival, and didn’t resurface until the rise of secularism.
Europe is a mythological fever dream and mouthbreathers need to get over it. It doesn’t even have any geological basis; it’s Eurasia.

An interesting take. Genuinely interested to know more as I was raised catholic and converted to CoE because I'm not sure about the pope, Mary and praying to saints. I don't personally see the point in them but I don't think they are heretical or wrong. Beyond this I've noticed almost no difference in teaching.

The Space Trilogy? That's a great suggestion, it's super cool.

>> No.16508974

You might also catch glimpses of that in CS Lewis, both Narnia and the Space trilogy. I think he'd be the last one to claim his writing was as singular as Tolkien's but it was tapping into something similar.

Aside from that I wonder whether your best bet might be to read backwards, to uncover the true essence of Christianity at its highest points of (true?) synthesis with the classical, secular European dimension, and not try to find moderns who did it deliberately. Dante comes to mind, you might be surprised how deep Dante is in the interpretations of some Christian critics. The authors T.S. Eliot loves, in general, might interest you, and even some of the ones he hates (Milton). You might discover Tolkien "ish" energies in authors you wouldn't have expected otherwise, through Eliot. Just some random suggestions here.

Lord of the Rings is pagan through and through. Nothing of the defining features/concepts of Christianity and Jewish semitic religious desert demon worship (afterlife, heaven and hell, rewards for your deeds in heaven, separating this world from the spiritual world, "material" world being inferior, turning the other cheek, dying for muh sins, son of God, one true omnipotent omniscient god with intermediary beings, salvation, ...) are found in it. If some elements are found in it that may be also found in Church teachings that is because they are European elements appropriated by the Church, not originally Christiam. Kys Jewish kike shills.
