the fact that he's been married three times is exactly why he can write what he writes about

>> No.16500127

More or less. It’s not his best, but it is his shortest and has a lot of the ideas that he uses in his later novels. It’s also his first, so there’s that. It’s still good though, and can act as a sort of sample for his later works. If you read it and don’t like his style, then don’t bother with his other works. But if it interests you read his other stuff.

>> No.16500149

>>16499851
I’m pretty sure he was married a bit later in his life, though I could be wrong. I don’t think any of his marriages have ended well either. Like the other anon said, the fact that he’s been married three times gives him some pretty good authority to write about love and sex and even women the way that he does. You could argue that he’s wrong or whatever, but to deny his perspective on women being valid with regards to his own experiences is certainly incorrect.

For me, it's that sweet ol' librarian and sweetiepie, the apple of my eye, Mr Georges Bataille. Listen here, Jack, because I won't say it again, when I was on pool duty back in '55 we'd have nothing but a dog-eared copy of, hey, listen, Fat, I'm talking to you, we'd have a dog-eared copy of of of, uh, Story of the Eye, which was this slim thing we bought from Slim Pete's store down in Santa Monica, where the girls would have hairy legs that looked like golden cotton candy under the right light. Well, Slim Pete had over a hundred copies of this novella from his buddy in Paris, well connected to the literary scene there, but you better not get on Slim Joe's bad side, because he would bang up a rusty razor and take you back to where they scalped the Nazi collaborators like Injuns back in the wild days of Ca-li-for-nie-yay, back when they would be fighting over Meeheeco, uh, the pearl of the southern United States, if not for the shitskins that inhabited that god-given land ... A-and I said, Fat, listen here, because when I say football we mean football, and milk is for the pussy, that's what I'd tell the kids down at the pool when they would come at my hairy legs with a rusty screwdriver and nettles they plucked from the garden of Eden where a little rabbit hole led to potions and talking squirrels and a medically insane poet named Jack Kerouac, who had tea parties where all he'd do would be to eat Benzedrine and write on teletype paper with the biggest ol' typewriter you ever done did see ... And the gauchos and the bullfighters would come out when Celine and Sabrina the Witch would be shoving eyeballs and eggs up their el cucarachas and the sun would be shining overhead then they would piss on a dead priest ... and ... hey, I got a motorcyle and a sleeping bag what the hell I gotta work for? Money? Jews got all the money, man, I'm the king, guy.

Watched it last night. Had a few chuckles but it's not exactly a great movie. Bits of random humor like the Kidnapping movie. It was weird seeing him full on crying.

The Stallone bit is actually around the middle of the movie and he shows up a couple of times. I wonder what Houllebecq felt about the Platform like ending.

Howard displayed eccentric behavior, such as: having his pants hemmed short so he would not trip in a potential fight; carrying a gun in his car in case of enemies; shouting stories as he wrote them; dressing oddly for the time and place, including a large moustache and sombrero; shadow-boxing as he walked down the street.

Literally the most ignorant post I have seen this week. The French have some of the best reactionaries and antisemitic writers (in fact I'd dare say they have most of the antisemitic and reactionary writers that are still good when you don't share their opinions).

Try De Maistre et Barrès for reactionary, Chateaubriand and Pascal for old-school Christianity (or Bossuet for even more focused Christianity), Céline, brasillach et Bloy for various strands of fascism and antisemitism.
