How can physicalists account for semantics/meanings? Consider the sentence, "The snow is white." Strictly speaking, the meaning of the sentence is not identical to the sentence or the atoms, pixels or sounds that make it up. There are no physical brain states that are identical to the meaning of the sentence either. In fact, we cannot even account for the meaning of the sentence by appealing to any of the notions in modern physics. Not even a "theory of everything" would help here.
