depends where you want to work, the field is very diverse you can be a lawyer for about almost anything, the thing is that there is a fuck ton of competition

That's what's concerning me. Will I have to deal with immigrant labor in this field, or is it Jewish nepotism that will limit me.

I'll pretend to have the right personality if I don't. What exactly is a "law" personality?

Type A. Competitive, hard working, prepared to make sacrifices, ambitious. Things you can't really fake.

I am currently a first year law student. The basic answer, and the most lawyerly one is: it depends. There are many niche areas of law that may be considered "hidden gems". Most lawyers make good livings in their chosen field if that isn't doing work as a public attorney. Basically, in most areas you will be just fine. But, options and viability vary depending on where you want to practice and some other things. Ask me anything else if you would like, and I hope that helped.

That's another thing I was thinking. My aunt is a lawyer, and she just ended up a say at home mom in an unsatisfying marriage.

I'm not competitive at all. I prefer to train and train until I win with no effort whatsoever.

Are you in law school currently? I don't plan on practicing in Louisiana mostly because there is a lawyer every 20 feet, but the mixed jurisdictional element is very very nice. As far as contract law goes you would be fine, but in that field more than others individual talent and personal connections matter. Good contract lawyers deal with the most contracts, and contract law is complicated even though it's fun in its own way. Long story short: you can make damn good money in contracts, but there are many sub-areas of contract law that you would have to glance over. Pick which one you're best at. Period.

You need to be competitive in the sense that you need to develop a skillset which allows you to see what others do not. Distinguishing yourself in law is a matter of skill and that takes practice. Be creative and disciplined. You don't need to stab people in the back in law school, you just need to constantly push the boulder up hill to exhaust every bit of those IQ points you got.

I'm not in law school yet, but I'm thinking of applying. I don't know where though. Currently, I'm on a humanities path, but I know I need to get off of that because it's worthless.

Most of that likely has more to do with her own life choices/nature and the fact that she is a woman.

You are fucked without a background in analytic philosophy, that allows you to nitpick immensely. Especially in contract law, like you state later.

I majored in political science and got in. If you have a good LSAT score for the schools you apply to your major is almost irrelevant. Consider it as a means to an end. A high GPA in History, for example, will be fine.

To address the above anon's point, I would say he is right in the sense that you need to have a dynamic mind, and since philosophy can make you a better thinker and writer it can help a lot. Law school teaches you a completely different methodological skillset though.

Oh, and be proactive about your resume. Community involvement and jobs are key, and frankly both will make you a better person or at least a little wiser. Reach out to attorneys that you might know through family or any that your professors might know. Attorneys really adore giving long-winded advice for some reason. Good luck, boss. Finally, don't come to 4chan for advice. This site is a bubble of impractical and inactive pessimists who love wallowing in their own shit and jawing about topics they know only in fragments. Ignore the faggots, put in the work, and chances are you will be fine.

Join the the military and be a JAG lawyer. You'll make a good amount right off the bat and all you'll do is represent lower enlisted who went drunk driving.
