Read D&P. Foucault had a genius for pulling details and narratives from ancient archives that nobody had studied, probably ever.

D&P is particularly interesting because of the intersection between a very detailed history (which Foucault's research and writing skills make fascinating) and Foucault's weirdly counter-intuitive - but hard to dispute - analysis of that history.
