No, it's Marxist cancer.

Mark Fisher never read Marx.

I read this book a couple months ago and i barely remember it. Do i have alzheimer's or is it so shit that my mind erased it?

It's really short and basically just the thesis is important. Fisher had a bad habit of throwing his blog posts together and calling it a book, finding a running theme of them all and writing a preface. His core concepts are interesting, novel, and worth discussing (capitalist realism & hauntology) but his discourse on these concepts are poorly strung along and fall flat.

Same, I read it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it but it doesn't seem to have a coherent overall narrative that persists in the mind. The only specific thing I remember is the anecdote of trying to teach students in college about something, maybe anything, and they find reading for pleasure boring, even the concept of intellectual knowledge itself boring. The lingering image is of a booksmart lefty academic standing in front of a bunch of surly youths who just want to browse Instagram, fuck and eat junk food. No wonder the guy killed himself.

Literally the result of lefty social politics and capitalism deterritorializing and destroying all social codes to set them "free" and in turn be captured in favour of capital. Then they cry about how the youth only cares about consumer products, stays isolated and at the mercy of market trends.

I bought this book thinking he would actually talk about alternatives to capitalism, but no. To anyone who hasn't read this, the author is a total loser that has to teach underachieving teens in some UK version of community college or something. He blames all problems of society on capitalism, including the bureaucracy of public education. His arguments are basically 1. citing popular movies and saying that they are a mirror of reality, and 2. putting some shallow unsupported quotes by people like Zizek and Jameson like if they were any authority on something. If anything he has convinced me even more that we shouldn't move away from capitalism with his descriptions of life as a slave of the UK government.

>> No.16317959

I read it and it seemed pretty unoriginal, the same shit Marxists have been saying for 50-100 years, and ultimately entirely forgettable.

This. His books are just him describing his depression and using Marxist rhetoric as a scapegoat for his problems, so it has an appeal to college kids who want to be educated but are resistant to reading a book over 200 years old or more than 300 pages, so they don't realize how much of what he's saying amounts to misinterpreting older books and generalizing to the point of misleading

I'm non-anglo, and I genuinely don't know what this means. What is lefty social politics? In my country, being left just means you want to tax the fuck out of everyone and redistribute it.

>> No.16319176

Left social politics means

>social liberation in all areas of life
>liberation of sexual identity
>liberation of homosexuality
>liberation from religion
>the complete abolition of western values
>the abolition of male/female marriage roles
>worshipping 3rd worlders
>weird decolonization fetish

Some lefty retard will tell you "that's not leftism, it's actually capitalism!", which is true, but they don't realize 85% of their goals parallel globohomo capitalism. The only real grievance lefties have is taxing muh billionaires (arms of the state), free healthcare, and less consumerist propaganda

and right policies are slashing taxes so companies like Amazon can soak up the equivalent of a monopoly in the market while blaming a generation of depression and anxiety on lifestyle choices instead of the absolute void of economic opportunity due to said monopoly plus globalizing the labor market

Basically this, despite the left saying they love local communities and their organization they have only worked towards to the destruction of all organic social codes that plagued europe and resisted capitalism, the justification is always that in doing so they would unite people from all places to fight capitalism and also impose their global enlightenment values everywhere.

This, of course, has only helped capitalism even more at creating a monopoly on desire of the people, leftists also love to point that those despotic or more primite communities and societies were centered around "myths" and lies to justify the power of one over another, while at the same time not seeing that their enlightenment values are just as mythological and religion derived as any other code. Hell, today they even create a hierarchy where only the people that are or identify as a group of oppressed may be allowed to have an opinion on certain things.

In conclusion, you have a political machine with its own set of dogmatic values and biases working together with capitalism to decode all social structures by linking them to forms of "oppression" according to their set of laws and justify their destruction so capital can work its way in and make them better consumers. You still have plenty of social codes in todays western socities though, but the left and their academics are always working on attacking them, like the family structure which has already been atomized, but you can still see articles and feminist rambles on how families oppress women and so does marriage and monogamy etc. This only helps the mega corporations in the long run as people spend less time invested into stuff that makes them worse workers and consumers, while at the same time plagued with a consumer culture that makes all "revolutions" worthless and mere revolts/riots incapable of organizing, like you see with the BLM riots.
