Downloading samples from Amazon, but there's not much reason to that. It's completely impossible now anyway, because they added a new "feature" that gets rid of side loaded covers, so since I'm a neurotic mess, I can never connect to the internet again.

damn, so that's what's up. I spent almost an hour last week trying to put cover on a book on calibre, that I had pirated. I thought maybe it was a bug or something. I changed my home screen view to list in the end, don't even need to see the covers this way. Fuck Bejos.

If you put your kindle onto airplane mode, and sideload everthing with calibre, then it works, but you can never connect to the internet again.

The features memed here can be easily disabled and most c/lit/s pirate books so it's not even possible to check what other people do with their ebooks.
At any rate, what other people do, experience or say about this sort of material stuff should have no effect on your own experience or desires.

That sounds like a pretty cool feature that probably can be turned off but also left on if you're not the most astute reader.

It's what it does 99.9% of the time. You only have to register it once and you can stay in Airplane mode. For someone who doesn't care about such shit, the only real advantage of having it with online access is checking Wikipedia articles and sending ebook files to the device's own email address if you don't have a computer at hand. Otherwise, it works just like a pendrive with a screen, to display and read books.
