I tried to read this because I thought I'd seem smarter if I read literary fiction and all this high-minded stuff and everyone around here is memeing Pynchon all the time and saying Lot 49 is a good starter to how he writes and what he writes about. In literally the second chapter the woman was fucking some guy she'd just met behind her husband's back, and I remembered why I didn't read literary fiction in the first place and thought at least I tried, now I can go back to reading genre shit and know I'm not missing out on anything.

Bella Swan is the main character of the Twilight books. A Bella Swan (projection canvas) is the opposite of a Mary Sue (self-insert superhero). A Bella can absolutely do nothing, won't do anything, and her character arc is as flat as Oklahoma. Everything that is interesting about her life is never related to her decisions or character, but only because of her surroundings, relations, or circumstances. She is wrong 100% of the time, but it is never 100% her fault. Her description is unconventionally pretty looking, in other words a projection surface a reader can put herself onto.
