Let’s have a fun discussion about this. I’ll start: I like reading to learn new perspectives from people in different fields, and have found myself subtly adopting new phrases and ways of speaking through reading.

i am certain my words won't suffice to describe all the plentiful pleasures that reading has brought upon me.
I realiezed this through reading.
But to name a few which come to me at this moment:
>enrichment of vocabulary
>confrontation with many concepts and ideas which leads to a better and deeper connection and interaction with reality
maybe one could say reading is a way to cultivate your intellect but that is to narrow a viewpoint i believe. It is not only my intellect that has veen cultivated but my whole being which includes the more intuitive or some might say unconscious aspects of it.

Ironically, I prefer reading over watching videos nowadays. Don't know if my attention span became shit, but I rarely watch any popular movies (only select anime)

So reading has shaped your entire being? I'm curious, how long have you been reading and how has the journey changed throughout?

Similar to >>15982123 and >>15982305 I am an exiled cinephile that got tired of shit actors and directors ruining otherwise good underlying plots/characters.
Also reading The Greeks got me into folklore literature which has kept me occupied for several months and I'm not even near finished with what I'd like to learn.

I read to get away from the instantaneity of regular life, which does not allow for a fully fledged understanding of the moment.

In a good book, I look for a restitution of all the small details that give back to a person, or a life its individuality and meaning.

In movies you can often guess what the next line of dialogue will be or how the story will go, too predictable
