Which language aesthetically looks the best on print? I would like to say English, but that's probably bias.

I'd say japanese. They have the whole caligraphy art going on and my camera manual looks best in japanese. Also latin looks pretty cool, even catching a glimpse of a word or two in latin text somehow makes it appear more important than it may actually be.

Arabic Calligraphy is a different animal entirely than Arabic script.

Having said that, I've often wondered how to take the art of "writing pictures" using Arabic Calligraphy and apply it to English. The obvious answer is that it can be done, but I'm not quite sure how.

As a lithuanian, I agree that english looks the best. The diacritics and umlauts are just plain ugly, no matter what language and english is one of the languages with the least of those. Thai looks like complete trash for this exact reason. Cyrillic is not much better because of characters like ё.
Japanese sucks because of the inconsistency in the complexity of the characters due to both hiragana and kanji being used. If a text used only hiragana and without the diacritics it would probably be at the top.
Chinese has the same problem (some of the characters are way too simple and others way too complex).
Korean and Greek are in the top 3 with English.

this is really interesting and something i’d like to know more about. i’ve noticed that modern books (novels) printed in english have beautiful type choices, generous line spacing and more overall room to breathe, while europeans seem to go for a different approach, filling the pages with as many letters as possible and squeezing them tight, using ugly utilitarian digital-age typefaces. this is also reflected in the cover art, which in the u.s. is an entire industry to itself while euro covers are more of an afterthought (if thought about at all)
