I have a question about my copy of this book. My copy has been translated by Henry Davis, M.A. I started reading it expecting to be reading Plato's writings, but instead i ended up reading 5 or 6 pages of the Translator's thoughts and opinions on Plato and his works. Is this every translation, or did i buy a retarded version?

I believe you. Once when I was out of work for a month I read a book a day. Having said that none of the books I read were over about 350 pages and me reading 350 pages when I get into it is only about 5-6 hours. So if I'm up for 16 hours a day with nothing else to do, that's lots of time.

It would have had to be more than 250 a day by my calculations. That would be 7500 pages. W&P, BK, C&P, Notes and the Idiot add up to more than 5000. 6000 if you add Dead Souls, Mishima, Prince and Rousseau. 7000 with Plato, The Trial, The Castle and Metamorphosis. In any case, what I find more unbelievable is that someone who reads so much will have never read so many of the most famous books ever published. I suppose you could have been re-reading, but still. This certainly isn't impossible though.

How much did you read every day? I've been a lifeguard for 18 days now, reading around 5-6 hours each day. So far, I've finished 6 and a half books, most of them middle-sized.

''I read X amount of books in a month! More than you, thus I am better than you. Please, somebody, give me attention''

You didn't comprehend one letter in that entire stack. Reading is supposed to be a mind broadening activity. Something that you sit down for and pay attention to. You have to experience what is being told, not scan over it. To make such a delicate and care-worthy concept into some sort of competition or 'MUH GAINZ' crap is steadfast proof of being an untermensch. Faggot.

I'm gonna tell you right now, Anon: nobody here really speaks Russian, and if they say they prefer a translation, it's because they bought/read that one and don't want to feel like it was a waste. Ask anyone "what makes it good?" and you'll get radio silence. It's worth noting though, that Garnett has been criticized for a while for editing certain things about the text to line up closer with Western sensibilities.
